My Friend's Place:
My Friend's Place is a non-profit organization that assists and inspires homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives. It was founded in 1988 by Steve LePore and Craig Scholz when they initiated a volunteer-led, mobile meal program to distribute sack lunches to the homeless youth in the Hollywood community. Soon the volunteers built trust with the young adults and realized that the youth are forced to the streets due to abuse, abandonment and neglect by family members and caregivers, and that their needs and challenges go well beyond the critical condition of hunger. Two years later, the volunteer group first opened the doors of a facility they called My Friend's Place. Today, My Friend's Place is one of the most frequently visited drop-in Resource Center for homeless youth in Southern California serving over 1,600 youth ages 12 to 25 and their children, each year.

ACCION:
Accion is a non profit organization created to ensure that Latino students and parents are better informed of how to prepare for a college education. Founded in 2004 by Gloria Diaz Ventura in response to the increase of Latino students in Los Angeles failing to apply to college, ACCION's priority is to help Latino students in Los Angeles close the educational gap from high school to college. By introducing college planning programs earlier in the high school years, ACCION has created a curriculum to motivate Latino students and help them embrace the dream of achieving a higher education.
